ULID Generator
Generate random, lexicographically sortable ULIDs — a modern alternative to UUIDs — free and processed entirely in your browser.
About the ULID Generator
A ULID is like a UUID, but sortable — it embeds a millisecond timestamp at the start, so ULIDs generated in order sort in that same order as plain strings, which is useful for database primary keys and anything where insertion order matters. UUIDs, by contrast, sort randomly.
Every ULID is generated using the same cryptographically secure random number generator as our UUID Generator, encoded in Crockford's Base32 (no ambiguous characters like 0/O or 1/I/l). Nothing is transmitted to or logged by our servers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is a ULID different from a UUID?
A ULID embeds a millisecond-precision timestamp in its first part, so ULIDs sort chronologically as plain strings — UUIDs (except newer time-ordered variants) sort randomly, which can hurt database index performance at scale.
Is a ULID as random and collision-resistant as a UUID?
Yes for practical purposes — the timestamp takes up part of the ID, but the remaining bits use the same cryptographically secure randomness.
What format is a ULID in?
A 26-character string encoded in Crockford's Base32, which excludes visually ambiguous characters (0/O, 1/I/L).
Is my generated ULID sent anywhere?
No. Generation happens entirely in your browser.
