VTT to SRT
Convert a WebVTT subtitle file to SRT, free and instant — conversion runs entirely in your browser, your file never leaves your device.
About the VTT to SRT Converter
WebVTT is the standard for web video, but many media players, mobile apps, and older software only accept the more universal SRT format. This tool converts a VTT file to SRT, reformatting timestamps and stripping the WEBVTT header so it works correctly in SRT-only players.
Basic cue text and timing convert losslessly. Advanced VTT-only features like cue positioning, styling, and NOTE comments are dropped during conversion, since SRT doesn't support them (this only affects VTT files that use those features — most don't). Everything runs locally in your browser; your file is never uploaded to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's actually different between VTT and SRT?
VTT starts with a "WEBVTT" header and uses a period for milliseconds; SRT has no header, uses a comma instead, and requires a numbered index before each cue — this tool handles all of that automatically.
Will I lose any formatting from my VTT file?
Cue text and timing convert losslessly. Advanced features — positioning, custom styling, NOTE comments — are dropped, since SRT doesn't support them. Most subtitle files don't use these, so this rarely matters in practice.
My converted file shows garbled or broken characters — why?
Same UTF-8 encoding issue as above — re-saving your source file as UTF-8 usually fixes it.
Is my subtitle file uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser.
