Checksum Verifier

Verify a file's checksum against MD5, SHA-1, or SHA-256 — free and processed entirely in your browser.

About the Checksum Verifier

When you download software, an ISO image, or any file where integrity matters, the publisher often provides a checksum — a hash value the file should match if it downloaded correctly and wasn't tampered with. This tool computes your file's hash and checks it against the one you paste in, so you don't have to compare long strings of characters by eye.

Paste the expected checksum, choose the matching algorithm (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, or SHA-512), and see a clear match or mismatch result. Everything runs locally in your browser using the same hashing engine as our Hash Generator.

How to Verify a Checksum

  1. Step 1

    Upload your file

Drag and drop the file you want to verify.

  2. Step 2

    Paste the expected checksum

Paste the checksum the publisher provided, and choose the matching algorithm.

  3. Step 3

    See the result

Get a clear match or mismatch, comparing your file's computed hash against the expected value.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my file's hash doesn't match the expected checksum?

That means the file is different from what the publisher intended — either it downloaded incompletely, got corrupted, or (rarely) was tampered with. Re-download and check again before using it.

Which hash algorithm should I use?

Use whichever one the publisher provided the checksum in, usually specified alongside it (e.g., "SHA-256: a1b2c3..."). If more than one is listed, SHA-256 is generally the most reliable choice.

How is this different from your Hash Generator tool?

Hash Generator computes and displays a hash for you to use elsewhere; this does the same computation but also directly compares it against a checksum you paste in, showing a clear match/mismatch instead of just the raw hash.

Is my file uploaded anywhere to verify it?

No. Hashing happens entirely in your browser.
